Ameren/UE's Edacs Trunk Radio Network

Star Trek:  Undiscovered Country MIDI

Ameren/UE follows in the footsteps of Illinois Power in using a large network
of linked Trunk Radio Sites.  However, Ameren/UE selected Ericcson/GE's
Edacs protocol to build its statewide network.  This network also has two
sites in  Illinois & three sites in Iowa.

* Notes *  The High Ridge Site is an impressively high site.  Review the
above listed callsign.  The FCC uses Meters, instead of Feet, so take the
listed Meters value and multiple it by 'Three' to yield the heights in Feet.
The High Ridge Site is:

Height above Sea Level:  267 Meters (801 Feet)
Height of the Tower 'Structure' is:  134 Meters (402 Feet)
Height to the Antenna Tip is:  140 Meters (420 Feet)
and finally...
Height Above Average Terrain (Hgt Aat): 215 Meters (645 Feet)

height.  In fact, check out its listed Hgt Aat':
Height Above Sea Level:  128 Meters (384 Feet)
Height of the 'Structure':  9 Meters (27 Feet)
Height to the Antenna Tip:  12 Meters (36 Feet)

* NOTES *   I will be making quite a few trips between St Louis &
Farmington, Missouri.  My current project is to acquire
as much LCN data for all the sites that are along the
path.  This path goes thru central Jefferson County on
I-55 & Hwy 67, and also thru Central St Francois
County on Hwy 67.  I'm also thinking about taking
some exotic routes to gather more data on the Ameren
Sites in near-by counties.   Some of these counties include:
Crawford, Franklin & Perry.  Something I've learned is that
the designers of this state-wide network did NOT feel it
necessary to place their site locations at the highest elevations
possible.  In fact, the transmitter sites are mostly in low or
moderate elevation locations.  The towers too are quite
short in height.   This would explain why they need so many
sites to cover the Hilly / Mountain terrain of SE Missouri.
A great place for them to locate the Park Hills site would have
been where the St Francois County Police put their three VHF
Repeaters, on top of the northeastern slope of Simms Mountain,
which towers over everything near-by, cities of  Doe Run &
Bismarck, highways of W & 32 (Does not tower beyond
Buck Mountain).  They could have put a tower on one of
the hilltops that surround Farmington.  The only sites that I
know of that are in great locations are these:  Creve Coeur,
High Ridge, Doe Run, Ironton & Crystal City
